Description

With wooden bag-shaped plano-convex body, the outer face moulded with four vertical broad flutes, the base flattened to form a small foot, encased entirely in morocco leather and including two pairs of leather tubular apertures for suspension cords, the inner and outer faces decorated with elaborate tooled and gilt patterns involving close-set small fleur-de-lys, arranged over the outer face as a series of five vertical bands narrowing towards the top, divided by flutes filled with tooled linear bands enclosed within brattished borders, the inner face with a solid field of small fleur-de-lys enclosed by a band of leafy flowers, with maker’s stamp towards the base, in an oval a half-figure with raised arms, and fitted with moulded iron nozzle and spring cut-off decorated with bands of chiselled foliage on a gilt ground.
