Oliver Marsden’s (b. 1972) characteristic Kymas series of circular paintings has consumed the painter since 2005. The consecutive works are subtly unique, whether through depth of tone, colour or surface texture. Concentric rings gravitate towards the locus, a richly saturated focal point with minutely altered gradations of colour. The biological element of Marsden’s hypnotic practise emerges in the satisfying shape of his works, returning to an age-old symbol of renewal.
Marsden worked as a technician for Damien Hirst for his butterfly series of pictures.
