An excellent example of a bar-top tobacco dispenser, heavy, solid brass construction, engraved beneath the handle with the name of the proprietor and “Crown Commercial Inn, Diss”, within, the larger lid stamped for the maker “B. Parker” and “Bury” a town neighboring Diss, circa 20 miles from away.
Often referred to as Honour or Honesty boxes, after dropping a penny in the slot and depressing the button the lid to the other side of the handle will spring open allowing the customer to fill their pipe with the tobacco within, honesty dictating that only the one pipe was filled before closing down the lid.
